This article sets out to analyse how and to what degree land use is linked to the physical characteristics of the territory
itself, and the way in which changes in land use are determined by agricultural and socio-demographic dynamics. The study
was conducted within the territorial boundaries of five municipalities surrounding Lake Trasimeno and refers to the periods
1977–2000 for land use and 1971–2001 for socio-demography data. The use of environmental, social, economic and agricultural
indicators demonstrates how a mix of various indicators are useful for monitoring the changes which took place. It also shows

The effects of manufacturing parameters on mechanical properties of medium density fibreboard (MDF) bonded with modified soy
protein-based glue were studied to find an appropriate manufacture technology. Physical properties of MDF made with different
amount of wax emulsion were measured. Results indicated that water repellent had no obvious influence on physical properties
of soy protein-based MDF boards. The fiberboards bonded with soy protein-based glue showed stronger water resistance properties
than those bonded with urea–formaldehyde (UF) resins. Furthermore, the soy protein-based MDF boards had good quality [25.2%
24 h soak thickness swell (TS), 29.9 MPa modulus of rupture (MOR), 3130 MPa modulus of elasticity (MOE)], which met requirements
of Chinese national standard. Practical processing parameters were obtained by orthogonal experiment, i.e., glue content 8.0%,

When males become more ornamented and reproduce more successfully as they grow older, phenotypic correlations between ornament
exaggeration and reproductive success can be confounded with age effects in cross-sectional studies, and thus say relatively
little about sexual selection on these traits. This is exemplified here in a correlative study of male fertilization success
in a large colony of American barn swallows (Hirundo rustica erythrogaster). Previous studies of this species have indicated that two sexually dimorphic traits, tail length and ventral plumage coloration,
are positively correlated with male fertilization success, and a mechanism of sexual selection by female choice has been invoked.
However, these studies did not control for potential age-related variation in trait expression. Here, we show that male fertilization
success was positively correlated with male tail length but not with plumage coloration. We also show that 1-year-old males
had shorter tails and lower fertilization success than older males. This age effect accounted for much of the covariance between
tail length and fertilization success. Still, there was a positive relationship between tail length and fertilization success
among older males. But as this group consisted of males from different age classes, an age effect may be hidden in this relationship
as well. Our data also revealed a longitudinal increase in both tail length and fertilization success for individual males.
We argue that age-dependent ornament expression and reproductive performance in males complicate inferences about female preferences

In order to evaluate the extraction of pesticide residues that are transferred to the brew during mate drinking process of P.U.1 yerba mate leaves (Ilex paraguariensis), a special device to simulate the way in which mate is drunk in Uruguay was developed. The transfer to the brew of 12 organophosphates, 5 synthethic pyrethroids and one organochlorine pesticide from spiked samples was studied. The relationship between the transfer data thus obtained and physicochemical properties like water solubility (Ws), octanol-water coefficient (Kow) and Henry's constant (H) was evaluated. The extractability of the pesticide residues from yerba mate can be correlated with log Ws and log Kow. These transfer values allowed the calculation of ARLs (acceptable residue level) for the pesticides following Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Health Organizaion (WHO) guidelines. Karst aquifers are characterized by spatial heterogeneity due to the presence of highly permeable channels and conduits in
low-permeable fractured rocks (matrix block). Recent studies have reported a close relationship between surface and subsurface
water in karstic regions due to the water flow through a complicated network of paths formed by fracture intersections. Subsurface
flow in karstified aquifers ranges between conduit flow, in large passages with relatively high flow velocities, and diffuse
flow, in the matrix block where Darcy’s law is still valid. In this paper, we present the simulation of a complex karstified
aquifer system in Crete, Greece, where the presence of main faults drastically affects the regional flow. A discrete fracture
approach in conjunction with an equivalent porous medium approach was adopted to simulate the mixed flow in the area of interest.
The simulation results have shown that the length and the orientation of the dominant faults, primarily during the rainy season,

With the aim of giving an overview on concentration and distribution of Cd, Cu, and Pb in fish from the coasts of Sinaloa state (SE Gulf of California), specimens with different feeding habits were collected in five locations. Sampling occurred between June 2003 and March 2004. Metal analyses on fish tissues were made by graphite furnace (Cd, Pb) and flame (Cu) atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Metal concentrations in tissues of carnivorous fish were grouped together and compared with corresponding concentrations in non-carnivorous fish; Cu and Pb levels were significantly (p?<?0.05) higher in liver of non-carnivorous species. Though no samples exceeded the maximum level set in international legislation for fish, from the perspective of the public health and considering the legal limits of fishery products for human consumption, Cu concentrations were exceeded (in tissues different from muscle) in four carnivorous and five non-carnivorous species according to the Australian legislation. In the case of Cd, two carnivorous species (Pomadasys leuciscus and Caulolatilus princeps) and one non-carnivorous species (Mugil cephalus), showed concentrations over the maximum level of 2 μg g???1 dry weight considered in the Mexican legislation. Considering average amounts of fish consumption in Mexico, daily mineral intake (DMI) values for Cu and percentage weekly intake (PWI) of Cd and Pb were estimated; none of the analyzed metals in edible portion of analyzed fish could be detrimental to humans. 相似文献

consideration to the roles played by environmental education, ethics and law in environmental enhancement and protection with
the aim of identifying the one that has made the most progress toward reducing the impact of environmental problems. Knowledge
of this is necessary as it will help determine the starting point of any environmental sustainability campaign and direct
efforts toward this. The findings of this study show that the importance of the three disciplines in environmental enhancement
and protection cannot be over-looked, and it identifies environmental ethics as both an interconnector of the other two disciplines

以郑州市贾鲁河河水为处理对象,研究了不同植物配置表层流湿地的水质净化效果及影响因素。研究表明,单纯挺水植物湿地对TN、TP、NH4+-N和COD的平均去除率分别为28%、58%、49%和26%;采用沉水植物+浮叶植物+挺水植物组合的湿地对TN、TP、NH4+-N和COD的平均去除率分别为37%、64%、63%和32%,在对NH4+-N和TN的处理效果上表现出明显的优势,DO含量变化是导致处理效果差异的主要原因。研究结果表明,在湿地植物配置上,可从氮循环的角度,通过合理搭配湿地植物,强化硝化反硝化作用,以提高对氮素的去除效果。 相似文献
